Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
SpotPass is a community-driven parking app built for drivers in Ireland. We respect your privacy and aim to collect only the information needed to provide and improve the SpotPass service.
This policy covers the SpotPass app and the SpotPass website (www.spotpass.ie).
1. Who We Are
SpotPass is owned and run by its founder, Mohamed Abdi, in Ireland. Mohamed Abdi is responsible for your personal information under data protection law (the data controller). You can contact us at privacy@spotpass.ie.
2. Who Can Use SpotPass
SpotPass is intended for users aged 16 and over.
You must provide accurate information when creating and using an account.
3. Your Account
You can sign in to SpotPass using Google or Apple.
SpotPass does not display your Gmail address, Apple ID, email address, password or any other private account credentials to other users.
Your name may be taken from your Google or Apple account and used as your SpotPass profile name. Your email address always remains private.
4. Location Information
SpotPass may ask for access to your device's location when you use features that require it, including:
- Finding nearby spots that other drivers are leaving
- Showing your position on the map
- Sharing a spot when you are leaving a parking space
- Claiming a parking space shared by another driver
- Using other parking-related map features
SpotPass does not track your location continuously when you are not using location-based features.
When you search for a place, your search text is sent to our mapping provider (Mapbox) to return results. SpotPass does not keep a history of your searches.
5. Spots You Share
When you use Pass ("I'm leaving this spot"), SpotPass records the location of the spot you are leaving and when it will be free, so nearby drivers can see and claim it. SpotPass does not track your location; it only marks the spot you are leaving.
Other drivers see only an orange SpotPass pin — never your name, email address or account.
Who shared a spot and who claimed it is stored privately and is visible only to the drivers involved.
A shared spot expires automatically. SpotPass keeps a record of it; when you delete your account, the record is no longer linked to you.
6. Spot Streak and Invite Friends
Spot Streak counts how many calendar days in a row you have made a qualifying contribution: a Pass that is saved, or a friend who signs in to SpotPass with a new account through your invite link.
To do this, SpotPass stores on your account the number of consecutive days and the date of the last qualifying day, plus a private record of each action that counted (whether it was a Pass or an invite, and the day). Only you can see your Spot Streak. Opening the app, signing in or viewing the map is not recorded for your streak.
Spot Streak has no cash value and does not give you money, discounts or other rewards.
When you invite a friend, your invite link contains a random invite code linked to your account. If your friend signs in to SpotPass with that link using a new Google or Apple account, SpotPass privately records that you invited them so it can count toward your Spot Streak. Neither of you can see the other's email address or account through this.
When you delete your account, your Spot Streak and its records are deleted.
7. Feedback
When you use Share Feedback, SpotPass stores the type of feedback and any message you write. Feedback is sent without your name, email address or account, and is reviewed only by the SpotPass team.
8. The SpotPass Website and Waiting List
Waiting list: if you join the waiting list on www.spotpass.ie, we collect your name and email address. We use them to tell you when SpotPass launches and to send you occasional SpotPass news. We process them on the basis of your consent. We do not sell them or share them with anyone for marketing.
We keep your waiting-list details until you ask us to remove you. To be removed at any time, reply to any SpotPass email or email privacy@spotpass.ie.
Website provider: the SpotPass website is built and hosted with Webnode. Webnode processes the waiting-list form and website data on our behalf.
Cookies: the website uses necessary cookies to work properly and securely, for example to remember your language and your cookie choice. Other cookies, such as analytics cookies that help us understand how the site is used, are set only if you choose "Accept all". You can choose "Accept only necessary", and you can change your choice by clearing your browser's cookies for this site.
9. Information We Do Not Share Publicly
Other users cannot see your:
- Gmail address
- Apple ID or email address
- Password
- Private account credentials
- Personal contact details
SpotPass never gives other users your private email address or phone number.
10. Data Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure.
However, no online service can guarantee complete security.
11. Where Your Data Is Stored
SpotPass app data is stored in the European Union (Firebase, Belgium region).
12. Data Retention
SpotPass follows a data-minimisation approach.
We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the relevant purpose, or where we are required to keep it by law.
13. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate information
- Have your personal data erased
- Restrict how your data is processed
- Receive your data in a portable format (data portability)
- Object to certain types of processing

You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, Ireland's data protection authority (www.dataprotection.ie).
14. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your SpotPass account directly in the app.
When an account is deleted, SpotPass deletes or anonymises your personal information, except for any information we are legally required to keep.
15. Third-Party Services
SpotPass may use trusted service providers to operate parts of the service, including:
- Sign-in (authentication)
- Maps and mapping services
- Cloud infrastructure
- Notifications
- Website hosting and forms (Webnode)
These providers may process information on behalf of SpotPass and may have their own privacy policies.
16. Changes to This Policy

The latest version will always be available in the SpotPass app and on our website.
